Meulaboh in Indonesia (2005)
A Singapore Red Cross medical team consisting of a doctor, 2 nurses and 1 operation consultant, responded to the call for help after Tsunami in Meulaboh, Indonesia from the 17th to 24th January 2005.
Objectives of the mission were:
1) To survey various stakeholders, hospital facilities for potential operations to carry on Singapore’s involvement during the rehabilitation and reconstruction, and
2) To give medical assistance in the hospital, and IDP* to the victims, distribution of medical and food supplies to the families in IDP camp.
*IDP - Internally Displace People, a term given to people who are made homeless by a disaster event. They stay in IDP camp, most often set up by humanitarian respond organizations. Habitat for Humanity is one such organizations.
