This project came about after our original project, Splashes of Love, a partnership with YEP to go Yunnan, Lijiang in April 2005 was aborted due to the unforeseen tsunami that strike on 26th December 2004.
Though our project was aborted, we had raised some funds after coming together in early December as a team to do fund-raising through selling of cashew nuts. We met almost everyday in one of our member’s house to roast and pack the cashew nuts to sell. In our effort, we managed to have a profit of $3,200 after deducting the cost of the raw materials.
As the project was aborted in the early stage of our fund-raising, we did not carry on with the targeted amount of cashew nuts we have to make and sell. With the profits made, we wanted to donate the money raised to the tsunami victims at Aceh through Red Cross, before our friend, also an admin executive working at the RCHD voiced to us the need for a refurbishment at the Home, that we decided to put this money to better use and to benefit the residents at the Home. Thus, we adopted the Singapore Red Cross Home for the Disabled in Year 2005 & 2006 as our community project.
